Frequently Asked Questions...
Is The Moog Little Phatty Stage II Too Complicated Of Synth For A Beginner?
Answer:
Not really. I've often heard the Little Phatty called the modern Rogue, a very apt description. The Rogue, made in 1981, was Moog's entry level synth, and was my first. I learned quite a lot on mine, and still have it, as it's still very inspiring. The L.P. of course has some newer features such as MIDI, patch memory, and stable oscillators, but the basic principles are all there, and provide everything you need to learn classic subtractive synthesis. You may want to hold off on using the more modern stuff like patch memory and MIDI so you'll stick to the basics, but it's definitely a great synth for both beginners and veterans. Check out www.vintagesynth.comfor some synth history, and look up their forum to read discussions about synthesis. Feel free to ask them any questions you may have, but browse the posts on there first. Many answers to your questions may already be there. Another source for the basic principles is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subtractive_synthesis
I hope this helps
