How It Can Be Dangerous To Keep Data On A Memory Card
Keeping photographs stored on a memory card can be very risky and unfortunately I found this out myself just last week. I am shame faced enough to admit that I had been warned about this previously but I did not follow the advice I was given. This decision has now come back to haunt me because I have seen over a thousand photos which were precious to me, lost forever and all because my memory card became corrupted last week. I have a few who acquaintances who are expert in this type of technology, and they feel certain that my photos are irretrievable.
This has been a very upsetting episode for me and the worst thing is that it is my own entire fault. Among the photographs I have lost were precious memories of birthday parties for my children, a number of foreign holidays and some weekend trips away in the UK. Last year we went on our dream holiday to Acapulco in Mexico, and all the photos of that trip were on this memory card. I was planning to print those photos out but what with one thing and another I never did it. The fact that photographs of my children growing up are gone is probably the worst thing of all. My wife is furious with me as she was always on my case to have these pictures printed off; I kept procrastinating.
So now I am handing out the really important advice that I chose to ignore. It is possible that these devices can malfunction. One of my friends works with things like this and he told me that it is only a matter of time before a memory card becomes corrupt. He has suggested that the photos are transferred to a computer straight away and that they are then backed up somewhere else too. This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way and I will never ever put photos on a memory card again for long term storage. It is just a pity that I had to lose so much in order to learn this lesson.
Memory Cards are used in many products today. R4 cards can give you a great example of a memory card. Another one that is used nowadays is the R4i.
