Overview of Saxophone Jazz Lessons
The jazz saxophone is a conical shaped instrument made up of brass with a single mouthpiece. The saxophone is an instrument more commonly used to play popular and jazz music by big bands. Jazz is a kind of strong music with complex rhythms. It was known to be initially played by black musicians in the beginning of the twentieth century. Jazz musicians often add notes in unusual or unexpected places. Tunes are improvised along the way.
Nowadays, there are many variations to jazz music. Jazz began with three instruments namely a cornet, trumpet, and a violin. Jazz blends in it other forms of music also giving it an American music form. In the jazz scenes, musicians are often called upon to perform solo with melodies that they usually create spontaneously. The rhythm can get quite complicated if there are more than one singer singing jazz.
Some of the steps which need to be followed to play jazz using saxophone include:
- A person must know how to play a saxophone before beginning to play jazz saxophone. You can do this without purchasing a jazz mouthpiece. A selmer C S80 will work better for jazz. Jazz music is essentially from the soul and not the equipment. If anybody wants to convince you otherwise that means they just want you to buy a mouthpiece.
- It may not be necessary for you to purchase a saxophone mouthpiece but jazz reeds are more in keeping. Jazz music is produced through your creativity and not through the mouthpiece, so ignore the people who force you to use mouthpiece to play jazz.
- Jazz is distinct in its style of music, very unpredictable and usually comes from the deepest parts of the soul. A jazz player needs to be in touch with his feelings to play it. Timing is important with jazz, so one needs to be patient while playing jazz.
- A jazz player will need to develop his own style of playing with much creativity and artistry. All the seven modes of music should be studied before you begin aspiring to play jazz music.
- One should listen to great jazz saxophone players as listening is very important for developing a jazz style. A person can try to become part of a jazz band in order to be able to experience handling the instrument. You also have the option of taking individual or one-on-one tutoring to get some really good pointers about jazz.
- Jazz music is also comprised of various scales that you are required to practice. Since chords are the foundation of music, they also have to be studied thoroughly.
When practicing jazz music, be sure to have with you a reliable copy-pencil. It helps you to note down your mistakes and your experiences which can help you in your future jazz saxophone practicing sessions. To properly learn jazz music, a dedicated and determined set of mind is needed to understand and explore the different chords that are needed to be learned. One should never take the jazz music lightly since mastering it requires a lot of practice. Regular practicing of jazz music helps to keep them in regular touch of the music which also helps them to improve their notes.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Baldwin Cornet?
I was just wondering if anyone has heard of the manufacturer of a cornet i recently acquired. on the top of the bell, read correctly if you hold the bell facing left and the mouthpiece facing right, is stamped "BALDWIN", and below, in cursive, is "Special". on the 2nd valve casing, on the left side if you're playing it, and reading correctly if it's bell-up, is the serial number, "300880". also, on the leadpipe, on the right side if you're playing, is stamped "CR301". It was "Supplied by Phil Parker Ltd", as stamped on the underside of the bell, but there is hardly any info about them anyway, and I'd be more interested in Baldwin than Phil parker. I also read somewhere that there are Conn copies... is this one of them? All info appreciated. Thanks.
