Understanding the Types of Car Stereo Speakers
Your car audio system speakers functions to replicate audio sounds into an electric form through sound waves that can be perceived by our ears. It works to produce the sound as true and perfect as it can be and without any distortions.
Only one speaker is needed to reproduce the sounds but not all the sounds in terms of range of frequencies. Some speakers cannot reproduce very high frequencies since it contains a lot of mass, it can however only produce low frequency sounds. Coaxial speakers contain tweeters and woofer to produce a range of audios signals, from the highest to the lowest. Aside from having good quality speakers, the type of car stereo is also important to enjoy music while driving.
A coaxial or multi-component speaker is the most common type of speakers. Usually, it is already built-in your car while being manufactured. Tweeters and woofer are found in the same unit of a coaxial speaker. The tweeter is responsible for giving off high frequency sounds while the woofer takes care of the low frequency audio signals.
Coaxial speakers are also called as two-way, three-way, or four-way speakers. It is very simple to determine whether coaxial speaker is two-way, three-way or even four-way speaker. To recognize a two-way speaker, it has one tweeter and also one woofer all installed in one piece. A three-way speaker has one woofer and two tweeters while a four-way speaker has one woofer and 3 tweeters.
Cars usually have a built in CD player. Compact disk needs audio speakers that can produce 20-20,000 Hz frequencies. Some speakers however, can only play 10-10,000 hz so that when playing a CD the music especially the high frequency audio signals does not sound correctly.
The component speaker contains many individual parts that is why it is also called separate speakers. Woofers come at six inches or bigger while tweeters sizes starts at 1 inch. It also has a passive crossover filter system. Tweeters generate high frequencies audio signals between 2,000 to 20,000 hz. Woofers can generate low sound signals or audio frequency from 80 – 200 hz only.
The external passive crossover filters. It filters the sound by separating high frequency and low frequency audio signals. It channels where frequencies should go either to the woofer for low sounds, or the tweeters for high frequency sounds. The crossover filters also acts to prevent sound distortions.
For very low sounds, a subwoofer does the job. It is designed to reproduce very low bass sounds between 20 hz to 125 hz. They come in large packages beginning at 8 inches and going up. Subwoofers needs additional power to function compared to other speaker components. It is used to give out a powerful rumble common in music and movies. To enjoy subwoofer effect, set it up near the tweeters.
Before buying your car stereo or car audio speakers, it is best to know what you're looking for in a music, plus consider too your budget. Coaxial speakers cost less and are easier to install. Component speakers cost more since it come in several pieces however, it can reproduce much better music than coaxial since it has the capacity to produce sounds individually from the lowest to the highest sound signals.
